Update for Families, February 26th

Dear I.S. 24 School Community,

Good afternoon!

I would like to share the attached letter from NYC School's Chancellor and the announcement of his stepping down today. I would also like to inform our entire school community our District 31 Community Superintendent, Mrs. Vincenza Gallassio, has decided to retire as of Monday, March 1st and a new Superintendent has not been selected as of yet.

I also sharing we have welcomed back our students in Cohort B and C this week after three months of being remote and we could not be happier to have our building breathing some life again with our students, faculty, and staff under one roof. We expect student programs to possibly see some changes as we are looking to provide opportunities for more students to attend in-person learning where it is safe and possible to do and will reach out to families when we are ready to announce that in some instances. We open our doors with a large number of students who choose to come to school in-person and that makes it difficult under physical distancing guidelines so not all students will possibly be able to attend school 5 days a week at this time.

Lastly, our school took part in random weekly COVID-19 testing today where over 100 students, faculty and staff combined were tested. This policy of testing weekly in our schools will take place until further notice with testing taking place on different cohort days. If a parent/guardian does not have a consent to test on file for a student, you will or already have been notified that your child will need to be moved to fully remote learning for the remainder of the school year. This policy is to ensure testing in school takes place for a random sample of 20% of those in attendance each day.

As always thank you for your patience and support in all school related matters.

Respectfully,

Lenny Santamaria
